12 Step Program to Being A Successful College Student...
Welcome to College Life Class of 2021. You are about to embark on one of the most monumental journeys of your life. Live in the moment. Strap in for the ride. As a college student, you will learn so much about you and gain fresh perspectives on life, love, and everything in between.I have enlisted the help of some expert college students and here is what we came up with:
- Get involved. Join organizations and network, network, network. Networking has never been so important in your life until now. -Latressa
- Utilize your professors’ office hours, emails, and class time accordingly. -Latressa
- Take care of yourself. Mentally, spiritually, and physically. Don’t slip on the self-care days. -Latressa
- Never underestimate your capabilities. -Djenabou
- Be open to doing things outside of your comfort zone. But also, realize you have mental and physical limitations. Don’t run yourself dry just for the fear of missing out on an experience. -Natalia
- Have fun. However, don’t forget why you’re in school. Never lose the end goal. Gotta get that degree lil’ boo. -Djenabou
- Plan ahead. But also, know your learning style. That may mean waking up extremely early on exam days to study. Or maybe you need to study in advance. -Natalia
- Talk to your RA (Resident Assistant). (No, I’m not just saying this because I’m an RA.) But seriously, we are invested in you all. We want to see you successful as a student. You all are literally like our children [that are a couple years younger], or younger siblings we want to help lead to greatness. -Latressa
- Just like the familiar phrase, “It’s a marathon, not a sprint.” College is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t be discouraged if you must take less classes than your peers to do better. Go at your own pace. As long as you come out a degree or two hotter it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get it. -Latressa
- Join good study groups; the ones that [give] you the answers. -Rotimi (Disclaimer: I’d say work for the answers too. Don’t be a leech, but nonetheless. Good advice. -Latressa)
- Always type questions into Quizlet. It’ll save your life. Also, make Quizlet’s for others to use. -Latressa
- Don’t let 11:59 pm catch you slipping. Complete your assignments in a timely manner. -Latressa
Overall, NEVER BE AFRAID TO BE AWESOME!
